15.5 miles,  ascent 1684′

And we are off, ready to experience Switzerland up close and personal!

After walking along the Rhein River for several miles we crossed the river and the border on a covered bridge

We soon joined a beautiful wooded trail with occasional views of Vaduz, the river, vineyards and the odd castle.

20160829_155254Suddenly the skies opened up and rain pelted us until we were able to dive into a little coffee/bakery shop in Sargans. Darn, we would have to eat some pastry! When the rain subsided, we moved on.

In Switzerland we came across many delightful and very functional little water fountains.  All were potable and very welcome.

There was often a note taped to the door with our name on it instructing us on how to get in the building, but no one would be around because the village was closed.
