Hiking is my escape from the real world; worries of everyday life melt away when I am surrounded by the beauty of nature.  I have spent most of my summers in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains either hiking or mountain biking.  In 2008 I decided to hike Half Dome in Yosemite National Park which would require multiple, long, training hikes. My goal was to have enough hiking miles under my belt to really enjoy the Half Dome hike  and  not just endure it.  That event was such a success that I started to long for a similar adventure, perhaps days of it!  A friend mentioned to me a 180 mile hike across northern England known as the UK’s “Coast to Coast Trek” as a possibility – and that trek became the first of ten (and counting) glorious, annual, European and North American hiking trips, generally around 200 miles!
