3.7 miles ascent 1600′ descent 500′

Pfeishütte served a delicious breakfast after which we bid our new friends good-bye and were on our way. The hut was still in the shadow of the mountain peaks making for a chilly start. However, the trail took us on an immediate ascent and we were shortly basking in the morning sunshine.

As we took the time to savor the view, we could clearly see the trail we had descended yesterday from Stempeljoch.

The rocky path carried on as it wound up the side of the mountain. We were beginning to get glimpses of the view we would shortly enjoy!

Arriving at the gap between Rumerspitze and Gleirschtaler Brandjoch we peered over to the other side realizing that we would have to be careful as we picked out way down through the rocks and scree.

The path lead us along dramatic landscape as we navigated the rocks and scree.

Occasionally there were cables to assist in tricky areas.

We were presented with a outstanding panorama as we passed through a notch at Mannlscharte.

The trail skirted the edge of the mountain which gave a striking view of Innsbruck directly below. Soon we arrived at the Nordkette Cable Car Station which took us on a lovely ride down the mountain. Checking into our very convenient Mondschein Hotel we dumped our packs before heading off to explore Innsbruck.

The view from our room overlooked the Inn River and the entrance to Altstadt.

We were quickly out the door, across the bridge and in Altstadt to begin our scrutiny of this lovely city.

Once in Innsbruck, we could easily see the Nordkette Cable Car Station (center top)

It was fun to take on the roll of ice cream eating tourists for awhile, giving ours legs a rest.
