The last clouds of the previous night’s storm were lifting as we began a relaxed walk through the Lechtal Valley, encountering quite a range of farm animals as well as beautiful scenery.

A beautiful, wooded trail followed the Lechtal River as we continued.

We came upon a very interesting, recently built bridge that crossed the Lechtal.

What a delightful walk it was to have views like this to enjoy.

These were the first sightings of pigs on this trek …

… and then more goats.

Walking from one hamlet to the next, we stopped in the village of Bach for lunch and then resumed our trek down the valley. A particularly charming village (with the standard church steeple) was Obere Stockach.

We saw several of these garden witches which are meant to keep away pesky critters.

Reaching the town of Holzgau, we noticed avalanche gates to protect the village in winter, high up on the mountain-side.

Upon our arrival in Holtzgau and our hotel, the Gasthof Dorfstube, we were welcomed by Martin, our very congenial host for this evening’s stay. The Dorfstube became one of our favorite places to stay on our trek.

Holzgau is well known for the beautiful frescoes called Luftimalerei on a number of buildings around the town. Martin provided a map of the village which identified all the houses painted with this art.
