To avoid what would have been a lot of road walking, we opted for the bus to Steeg, another village on the way to Kaisers. A woman at the bus stop in Steeg pleaded with us in German to not go on to Kaisers, that it was not possible to go there. She was very concerned that we were going to walk to Kaisers and announced to the other passengers that we mustn’t do it. Fortunately, we ignored her warning and headed up the road. The problem appeared to be some road construction which prevented passage for autos and busses, but hikers were not a problem. We took a final gaze at the Lechtal River as we crossed the bridge at Steeg and began the climb to Kaisers.

Lechtal River

The road followed a gorge carved by the Kaiserbach River at the base of stunning mountains ranges in all directions.

Passing through a tiny village, we noticed a patio garden filled with gnomes, a sight we have often seen.

The village also had its own quite old, little roadside chapel.

Ascending, we were impressed by the mountain views.

The village of Kaisers was spread over the near mountainside, with our home for the evening, Edelweisshaus, at the top of the village.

Edelweisshaus

Edelweisshaus was well run, very clean, and served delicious meals. Since we arrived early in the afternoon, we were able to relax, enjoy the view, and chat with other hikers while appreciating a bountiful lunch.

After the generous meal, we spent the afternoon exploring the area.
