A bright morning was enjoyed as we began our adventure for today. A slight error in map reading resulted in one and a half miles of additional walking up a steep hill. As we discovered, from Hallerangeralm there is a five minute flat walk to the trail….oh, well, next time! Once on the correct trail, the morning climb began up to Laftcherjoch. From this point we would say good bye to the Karwendels in Germany and look down to the Inn Valley and the Tux Alps in Austria.
Another very long descent through scree, woods, and roots was navigated before we reached St. Magdalena, a monastery that was destroyed by an earthquake in the 17th century. The church and the attached building remain, and it is now a restaurant. This was the perfect spot for some apple strudel to sustain us for the remainder of the afternoon.
Again we had another long descent into the town of Hall which is the first large town we have seen since we began our trek. Hall is charming with it’s winding, cobblestone streets. Our B&B, The Goldener, is at the very base of the town near the Inn River. It is a lovely, refurbished hotel that was quite a treat to weary hikers!
